The São Paulo Metro line 5 involves different typical construction methods for the stations: cut&cover (in the configuration bottom-up and top-down), mined underground stations excavated with the NATM, multi-secant large diameter shafts. Special constraints at the Brooklin station site of the São Paulo Metro line 5 (polluted multilevel aquifers, reduced spaces for the construction site, interferences on the surface) challenged the designer to find a reliable solution, compatible with the tight construction schedule. In this paper, starting from the example of the Brooklin station, it will be demonstrated that a reliable self-supported cut&cover is possible, with a total control of deformations and of the stability, minimizing the interferences with and the impact on the surface and reducing the constraints of the execution sequence. The rigorous and robust approach adopted, based on an in-depth risk analysis and the lesson learnt, will be described. The advantages of the solution proposed, in terms of safety, flexibility, reliability, costs and time,
