Passive Fire Protection Applications in Marmaray Tunnels
Fire insulation is required of the train tunnels of the Marmaray Project against the load of 100 MW hydrocarbon fire for a minimum duration of 4 hours. The purpose is to limit the structural damage, i.e. without a collapse and/or catastrophic flooding of the tunnels, under the specified fire load that the passengers can safely be evacuated and also the facility can be restored to the normal operational conditions within a reasonable time. The passive fire protection (PFP) applications in the twin TBM-1 Tunnels, at a length of 2430m each, are explained in the present paper including the particulars related to laboratory testing for verification of the material, PFP application under a very tight work programme and tests on completion. The specific experience acquired in relation with material selection shall also be introduced.Recipient :
