Having the second most important seaport of Turkey and a population of about 4 million, İzmir has become one of the fastest growing cities of the country along with its demand for transportation facilities. Within the context of ‘İzmir Bay Crossing and Connections (Including Motorway and Railway Transit System) Survey, Design and Engineering Consultancy Services’ project, it is intended to obtain better transportation standards providing a safer, faster and more comfortable network between two shores of İzmir bay. Five alternative routes were studied based on geological, financial, environmental and geometric standards and the most feasible route was selected. Although all the alternative routes have high standards, the first alternative is better considering the route length, location and dimensions of interchanges. From the geological and geotechnical point of view, all the alternatives have similar conditions but the first alternative is advantageous since the length of immersed tunnel which is proposed to be constructed in basically medium stiff to very stiff clay and medium dense to dense
