  Preventive Maintenance in Tunnelling for the Uma Oya Project, Sri Lanka

  Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project involves 2 RCC Dams connected by a D&B Link tunnel which will transferred water from first dam to the 2nd dam and then it will be transferred conveyance a 15.4 km Headrace Tunnel to the top of a 618 m deep pressure shaft that feeds to an underground powerhouse for generation of electricity. The Headrace and Tailrace Tunnels are being excavated by two 4.4 m diameter Herrenknecht double shield TBMs. In this paper the maintenance plan and actual program will be review and the impacts and effects of the preventive maintenance in all section of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, cutter head & disc cutter in this long hard rock mechanised tunnelling review and the results will be discussed.
