Trabzon City Pass Kanuni Boulevard project is approximately 23 km long and 9 tunnels will be opened in the scope of this project. The first tunnel to be opened is Akyazı tunnel. Left tube is located between Km: 0+764-3+180 (2416m long); right tube is located between Km: 0+764- 3+242 (2478 m long), and this tunnel is designed as twin tube having 3-lanes (Fig. 1). Project alignment enters the tunnel at approximately 9.07 m elevation and exits the tunnel at 9.80 m elevation with a 0.64 % slope. Akyazı Tunnel has been planned as an obligation because that the existing state road will serve as a frontage road and the construction of Akyazı Stadium and Sport Complex. Besides a 616 meter-long single tube connection tunnel with 2 lanes was planned because of the necessity of connection to Kanuni Boulevard and field conditions. At the transition zone from Akyazı Tunnel to this connection tunnel (Km: 2+470-2+720) cross section area gradually increases from 3 lanes and 150 m to 5 lanes and 438 m² (Fig. 2). In this article, excavation support stage have been defined separately with numerical and analytic calculations for the transition zone from the main tunnel to the connection tunnel. Strain and displacements have been calculated for each stage and measures to be taken during excavation and support stages have been  determined. Tunnel project works were completed in 2013 and tunnel construction work is planned to be completed by the end of 2015. When the connection tunnel is completed, it will be Turkey's widest cross sectional tunnel.
