  Operation Technique of Mechanized Tunnelling in Mixed Ground

  These days, mechanized tunneling using TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) has become very popular in many countries. There are numerous advantages using a TBM in contrast to a conventional tunneling technique such as NATM (New Austrian Tunneling Method). Even though a mechanized tunneling requires significantly large investment for preparing a TBM and its facilities, it is more beneficial to adopt mechanized tunneling compared to NATM in a long tunnel, because the length of tunnels has become increased significantly these days. There are various kinds of TBMs developed to correspond to the ground condition that TBMs should excavate. An open TBM is developed in order to excavate sound rocks efficiently.
