The widening excavation of the small diameter inclined tunnels was planned with the hydraulic wedges. The reconstruction works has to be executed on the very old hydropower station and mining technique is not approved. Because excavation method with wedges was useless, the pre- splitting of the rock mass was wire saw was applied to executed widening excavation of tunnels. The unforeseen geomehanic tunnelling conditions caused prolongation of the time for completion. Due to the geotechnical site investigation work and laboratory rock samples testing, it was reported by geology engineer that tunnelling is in I. category of the rock mass and not in the II. category of the rock mass as was scheduled in a contract. This fact impacted that excavation technology and method changed and new type of the equipment were applied, instead hydraulic wedges the wire saw with diamante ropes used for the pre-splitting rock mass in tunnels and finally as a excavation method.
