Case study: Flood mitigation of Bodø River, Northern Norway
The municipality of Bodø, Northern Norway, and the Norwegian Road Authorities (SVV) is planning the construction of a new floodwater tunnel to regulate the water level south of the city Flood mitigation is needed due to an expected increase in surface water related to a new road under construction, changes in water supply to the city and expected changes of climate and precipitation. Changes in the Bodø city water supply reduces the regulation of Vågø lake thereby increasing natural run-off and changing hydrogeological flow patterns toward the sea. Bodø is situated on coast of northern Norway. The study area and the outline of the water tunnel is illustrated in The terrain in the study area is relatively flat with softly undulating terrain gradually sloping towards the sea in south west.
