Complex Function Method for the calculation of the stress field around tunnels due to incident S-Waves
The increasing use of underground facilities requires, in the case of countries within seismic zones, safety provisions against motions caused by earthquakes. Generally, underground structures are less vulnerable than surface structures in case of an earthquake. In recent years, however, the enhanced awareness of seismic hazards for underground structures has prompted an increased understanding of factors influencing the seismic behavior of underground structures. Nevertheless, due to their importance, even slight damages can harm, e.g. leakage of hazardous materials incurring environmental disasters. Serious damage to transportation networks endanger human life, and hinder transport.
