  Decision-making for the selection of the most suitable tunneling method

  The determination of the most appropriate tunneling method is one of the biggest challenges in the design of tunnel projects. For the most suitable method selection, no general statement can be made, as it generally depends on the project-specific conditions. A direct comparison of tunneling methods based on already excavated tunnels is not possible. This would make sense in the case of nearly parallel headings, comparable geological conditions and the same project participants [1] which is, however, rather rarely the case.
