In China, there is a railway station extended into a tunnel with 547m, which located in secondary line from Liupanshui to Zhanyi. So a large span tunnel with four lines formed. Its largest excavation span reaches 28.42m, and the maximum cross-section area is 354.30m. This paper took this case studied. It is suggested to divide the tunnel to three sections as portal section, shallow buried section and deep buried section. Double layers pipe umbrella are used as advance support to assist tunneling in the portal section. Based on the principle of NATM, partial excavation method is designed for this four-line tunnel. Shallow buried section is divided into nine faces and deep buried section is divided into seven faces. In order to decrease the risk of removing temporary support, prestressed cables are used to replace the temporary support which is going to be removed.
