Rheological analysis of rock bursting
The mechanism of rock burst had been investigated by many different approaches. This work focuses in the rheology of rock masses, especially in the role of their elastic parameters – Young’s modulus (E) and Poisson’s ratio (ν) – in the process of the building-up of elastic strain energy (W). Testing of the role of such parameters was carried out by means of analytical calculus and numerical models. The results show that elastic parameters, especially E, have a direct influence in W, once they play an important role in the constitutive equations. Tunnel design analyses which consider standardized values of elastic parameters must be taken with great caution, once that variations in the elastic parameters may affect considerably the energy balance and rock burst potential.
