Modern tunnelling is subject to numerous demands: Tunnelling companies must keep costs low, finish projects in less time and still keep up with the high quality and safety standards. As a result, there is less time for preparation, a need for a simplified transfer of planning data, flexible operational capability and the use of high-performance instruments. This combined with a new innovative software solution, which allows to control tunnel headings with a mobile tablet application and a simple workflow-driven user interface. The tablet-based tool helps to save time, reduces downtimes in the tunnelling process and minimises the project costs. The paper explains the workflow of heading guidance control with the TMS Navigator Tablet. Furthermore, the optimisation of the excavation that has been achieved thanks to the new system will be described using the example of the Ryfast project close to Stavanger in Norway.
