TBM performance prediction using PLCM and comparison with TBM field performance parameters

Full Scale Linear Cutting Machine (FLCM) is a most popular rock cutting test device for prediction performance parameters of mechanical excavators. LCM test have some disadvantages that requires too much manpower, large blocks of rock samples, which are usually difficult, too expensive, or impossible to obtain. For these reasons a new portable linear rock cutting (PLCM) machine was developed in the Mining Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University and supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK-112M859). In this paper relieved and unrelieved linear rock cutting tests carried out on a conglomerate rock sample from a tunnel project in Istanbul with newly developed machine of PLCM. For these tests, a mini constant cross section (CCS) type disc cutter was used and cutting forces acting on a disc cutter were measured. TBM performance parameters were defined with using PLCM test results and then compared with TBM field performance parameters.
