Use of BCN Test for Controlling FRS in Tunnelling Works
The use of fiber reinforced shotcrete (FRS) has been widely used for the construction of support tunnels in road, mining and hydroelectric projects in Latin America in the last years. However, tests to control their properties are a permanent problem for both constituents and contractors, because standardized tests require complex and expensive equipment or large and heavy specimens. To simplify quality control, it has been proposed to use the Barcelona Generalized (G–BCN) test, which can be performed using equipment available in most laboratories. Considering that FRS are normally specified based on their energy absorption capacity determined by testing square panels, in this paper an experimental correlation is proposed to estimate that energy from the toughness calculated using the load- axial displacement response obtained by means of G–BCN test. With the proposed correlation, differences between the estimated and experimental values less than 1.1% have been obtained.Recipient :
