The annular gap between the ground and the tunnel lining must be filled with a suitable grouting material, depending on the given (hydro-)geological boundary conditions. In case of permeable soils one-component grouts are used, which consolidate due to dewatering into the surrounding soil. In insufficiently permeable soils two-component grouts are used, which harden through a chemical reaction between the activator and the cement. In this paper, test methods for simulating the solidification process of different annular gap backfilling materials are presented and thus for verification of their suitability for the annular gap backfilling.
