Shield or TBM tunneling method requires high requirements on the design and manufacture of disc cutter, especially for the material and heat treatment process of cutter ring. With the increase of projects using shield machines or TBMs, it’s difficu lt to accurately predict the complex geological conditions, especially upper soft and lower hard stratum, which will easily cause the block collapse and fracture of the cutter ring. As for the upper soft and lower hard stratum, this paper describes the material composition selection and edge shape design of cold working die steel cutter ring, studies the heat treatment process of the gradient hardness of the cutter ring, and tests its effect by field test.
