Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) serves as the key to a sustainable transport system with most of the lines built underground without the need for significant land use. The 43-kilometers Thomson-East Coast line (TEL) runs from Singapore’s North to the city center and continues along the east coast towards the airport. Throughout the tunnelling history of Singapore, a significant body of experience has been accumulated in the different eminent geological formations. In Old Alluvium and Kallang Formation, typically Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) are used. To reduce the logistical footprint, the noise emission and improve safety and performance, a muck pumping system has been deployed for muck transportation in Contract T307 of Thomson-East Coast Line. This paper will introduce the pumping system and its excavation management system as it has been successfully applied for the first time for a full drive in Singapore.
