Performance Prediction Models for EPB TBMs used in Gayrettepe- New Istanbul
Empirical performance prediction models are developed in this study based on field data obtained from Gayrettepe-New Istanbul Airport Metro tunnel excavations of 5,313 m excavated by two identical EPM TBMs in basically clayey soils of Danismen Formation. Geotechnical characteristics of the soils (liquid and plastic limits, natural water content, fine material content) are obtained from site investigation reports. EPB TBM operational parameters (cutterhead torque, TBM thrust, face pressure, soil conditioning parameters (foam expansion ratio (FER), foam injection ratio (FIR), foam concentration (Cf) and performance parameters (penetration rate and specific energy) are recorded with the data logger of the EPB TBMs during tunneling and obtained from the shift reports and in-situ observations. The results of the statistical analyses indicate that TBM thrust force, cutterhead torque and specific energy can be predicted reliably.Recipient :
