  Longitudinal Ventilation System in the Ceneri Base Tunnel in Switzerland

  The Ceneri Base Tunnel (CBT) is a 15.4 km long, twin-tube, single-track railway tunnel in southern Switzerland. The CBT is part of the new Swiss Trans-Alpine Railway Link and is equipped with a longitudinal tunnel ventilation system. The commissioning of the tunnel ventilation system was finalized in July 2020. The tunnel is in commercial operation since December 2020. The performance of the longitudinal ventilation system and the emergency procedures in the event of a fire inside the CBT were tested during the commissioning phase of the tunnel. The measured thermo- and aerodynamic data are analysed and presented. Furthermore, the differences between a longitudinal ventilation by jet fans or by single- or multiple-point extraction or supply systems with fan plants are discussed.
