Laboratory Study on Characteristics of Foam - Conditioned Weathered Granite Soil
The weathered granite soil that is widely distributed in the Korean peninsula has unique characteristics compared to typical sandy or clayey soils. When tunnelling the ground consisting of the weathered granite soil by the earth pressure balance (EPB) shields, it is necessary to evaluate the effect of foam conditioning on the behavior of the weathered granite soil. In this study, a laboratory-scale EPB TBM excavation apparatus was adopted to perform a series of laboratory tests for evaluating the shear strength, workability, and abrasivity of the weathered granite soil conditioned by foam. In addition, the compressibility and permeability of the conditioned soil were evaluated according to each foam conditioning. The effect of foam injection ratio (FIR), foam expansion ratio (FER), and concentration of the foaming agent (Cf) was considered to quantitively compare the behavior of the weathered granite soil corresponding to foam conditioning, which is critical for enhancing the performance of EPBs.Recipient :
