  Ground characterisation for Sydney’s Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link

  The Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link program is an important part of the New South Wales Government’s investment in creating an integrated road and public transport network. The program will improve capacity, reliability, and journey times for commuters, freight, service providers and public transport users who rely on Sydney’s critical cross-harbour transport corridors. The program includes over 15km of twin mainline road tunnels, including two harbour crossings, extending from the WestConnex interchange at Rozelle, across Sydney Harbour, Middle Harbour, and connecting through to the Northern Beaches. The paper discusses the challenges of developing a ground model within the complex harbour sediments, and how a comprehensive, state-of-the-art site investigation helped address this.
