Grand Paris Express Line 16 -1 innovation and challenges of a 9.87m bored tunnel
The Grand Paris Express is the largest active tunnelling project in Europe. It involves 200 kilometres of automatic metro systems, with 4 new lines and 68 new stations in the Paris metropolitan area. Eiffage is in charge of constructing the Line 16’s first contract, which is the biggest one of the whole Grand Paris Express project. It includes the excavation of four new stations and 20 km tunnels, using six EPB-TBMs of different diameters. The purpose of the article is to explain in detail the challenges and innovations involved in the excavation of a portion of 3 km departing from the 34E01 site, where three TBMs were launched few months apart. This site is considered the most critical point of the project for its logistic and installation challenges, added to a dense urban and infrastructure context.Recipient :
