When tunnels are constructed in urban areas, excavation is often carried out under the water table and beneath structures which, in many cases, are founded on piles. In this context, pressurised Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) are used to minimise ground movements in the urban environment. To limit damages generated by the excavation works, it is essential to give the best prediction of tunnelling impact on deep foundations. This article presents the main results of a full-scale experiment carried out as part of the construction of the future line 16 of the Grand Paris Express project. One of the objectives of this research project is to improve the understanding of soil and structural responses to tunnel excavation in the geological context of the Paris basin. This paper presents the main results of this full-scale experiment. In particular, the piles behaviour is analysed in relation with the displacements measured in the ground and the variations of the TBM driving parameters.
