Experimental Rock Cutting Tests with Actuated Disc
The Actuated disc cutting (ADC) is one of the most state-of-art technologies in the fields of rock cutting mechanics. The ADC is based on the undercutting mechanism, while many cutting parameters are involved in a complex rock cutting process. This paper introduces the new concept of a lab-scaled rock cutting system which can facilitate cutting experiments implemented undercutting concept based on the traditional LCM system for TBM discs and pick cutters. In this study, the cutting parameters in ADC, such as eccentricity, inclined angle, linear velocity, RPM, and cutting geometries are simulated by the linear cutting system. A series of undercutting tests were performed under different cutting conditions for designed hard rock specimen (rock-like material). The effects of cutting parameters on the cutter forces and specific energy were discussed, and optimum cutting condition in the ADC was analyzed. The results indicated that ADC has lower cutter forces and specific energy than TBM discs and pick cutters.Recipient :
