For rapid construction system of lining concrete for tunnel structures, the development of a long span tunnel formwork carriage system that extends one construction span to 18 m or more has been worked on. In order to reduce the risk of the occurrence of cracks at unspecified locations, a method to form crack-inducing joints was proposed by installing metal plates at the mid-span of the tunnel formwork before placing concrete, and pulling the plates out after concrete hardening. To confirm the applicability of this method, a full-scale construction experiment was conducted in a simulated tunnel. Through the experiment it was confirmed that metal plates can be easily pulled out after the concrete is hardened, there is no quality problem in the concrete around the joints, and cracks can be induced by the proposed joints.
