Eliminating the Need for Wet Deluge Testing in Tunnel Commissioning and Testing
Dry-Flo® is a DNV verified, unique technology that allows deluge systems to be tested for performance without the use of water. Originally developed for oil and gas applications to minimize corrosion and the inherent disruption of wet testing operations. Dry-Flo® was utilized as a World first on a major road tunnel project in Australia in 2020, saving significant water and energy usage whilst minimizing disruption to commissioning operations. Dry-Flo® effectively digitalizes the deluge system and quantifies flow accurately in virtual litres using air. The methodology provided major benefits to the tunnel commissioning operation, testing over 670 systems and 9,000 nozzles. The technology verified performance on every system, identifying problems in around 15% of all test zones that could be rectified immediately (obstructions, debris, leaks, design issues). Dry-Flo® was also estimated to save over 11 litres of water usage and saving critical path time in the final commissioning phase. In conclusion, Dry-Flo® in the application of tunnel construction, commissioning and operations provides commercial benefits by minimizing the use of water and energy whilst avoiding the disruption of wet testing deluge systems.
