It is important to comprehensively analyze ground condition and sensor data of the machine in order to reflect in TBM tunnelling operation. Despite, TBM operation generally depends on operator’s experience based skill as it is very difficult to judge the change in ground condition and analyze the numerous data in real time. However, such operation may cause risks induced by either too conservative operation or excessively aggressive operation, resulting in too slow advancement or overload of the machine, respectively. A TBM Advanced Driving Assistance System (TADAS) has been developed to cope with such technical issues and to increase productivity of TBM eventually. The system can predict ground condition in real time based on machine data thus provide driving parameters of thrust force, RPM etc. for the optimum driving within machine’s allowable capacity. This paper presents the brief introduction of the prediction model of TBM performance, the software TADAS, and its field trial that was successfully verified.
