  Design of microcement

  The Urdinbide road tunnel, inaugurated in 2018, crosses the multilayer aquifer of Autzagane, of great environmental importance, as it belongs to the hydrological system of the Urdaibai biosphere reserve, one of the most important natural areas of the Cantabrian coast. Its construction has been a technical and environmental challenge in order to preserve the existing aquifer, both during the works and in the final situation. To this end, systematic repetitive and selective injections (IRS type) were carried out, in order to achieve a crown of improved ground with a minimum thickness of 3 metres around the perimeter of the excavation and to guarantee the waterproofing of the ground to prevent water infiltration towards the tunnel.
