In carrying out the work to excavate a road tunnel, parallel to the existing road, each open-pit rock blasting process aimed at conforming the portal structure would result in the traffic on the BR-101/SC highway being paralyzed for about two hours. This highway is one of the most important, in terms of traffic, in the southern region of Brazil. To minimize these interventions, the solution would be to increase the work's underground section and reduce open-pit excavations. This work will present the cost-benefit ratio for the decision to change the construction project during the construction phase.
