In recent years, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA), Ministry of Transport, Thailand is implementing the MRT Orange Line Project East Section which runs along one of the most congested roads of the city. There are numerous of existing flyovers founded on piles situated nearby to the tunnel alignment. Their potential impact from the EPB shield tunnelling needs to be assessed in order to maintain the existing flyovers serviceability. The impact assessment method using in this project shall be carried out in two stages: first, preliminary assessed the responses of the pile foundations by using PRAB; second, for such pile foundations which susceptible the damage by tunnelling as determined from PRAB, further assessment shall be performed by using FEM. Applicability of the approaches are verified by a comparison with a case history of MRT project in Singapore. According to the results, estimation of pile foundations responses to tunnelling obtained from the analysis comparing with instrumentation data resulting in a good agreement. The jet-grouted partition wall can work effectively in reducing ground movements.
