The challenges of Climate Resilience in cities requires infrastructure solutions involving complex tunnelling within urban environments. Such projects involve numerous risks which need to be managed as projects are realised. This paper presents the collaborative and integrated approach to risk management during the planning and design phase of the Kalvebod Brygge Climate Resilience Tunnel. To achieve HOFOR, the client’s, objective of applying the principles of tunnel risk management, detailed in the Code of Practice for Risk Management of Tunnel Works, a comprehensive risk management plan has been implemented. Key to achieving the client’s objective was engaging the multiple disciplines involved in the planning and development of the scheme in fields where the approaches commonly used in tunnel risk management are not so familiar. At the end of detailed design, this paper describes how a tailored risk management regime has helped identify, manage and mitigate risks actively during the project development and summaries how the process engaged all disciplines in the risk management work. Risk management on the Kalvebod Brygge tunnel has shown how an integrated risk management approach helped target and mitigate major risks and challenges facing the project across the multiple disciplines involved.
