  A handbook for sustainable and fire safe tunnelling work

  In Sweden, several tunnelling projects are underway. In several of these, shortcomings regarding fire protection during the construction phase have been identified. The basis is that Swedish law applies, where fire protection is regulated in several legislations and regulations. Despite this, both owners and contractors may experience uncertainty about what is a reasonable level of preventive fire protection. Therefore, a project was launched within the Tunnel Underground and Safety Centre (TUSC) with the aim to create a simple, clear handbook to support both the owner and entrepreneurs regarding fire protection during the construction phase for tunnels. This paper centre around two workshops that were organized within the handbook project, focusing on the challenges that developers, contractors, and rescue service face in practice.
