The Fehmarnbelt Tunnel will have its Digital Twin (DT) facilitating more effective and efficient asset management of the tunnel during its long lifecycle. The DT will accommodate and interlink the BIM and GIS, Femern Asset Maintenance and Management System (FAMMS), SCADA system and Structural Health Monitoring System. The DT should, therefore, deal with scalability, flexibility and modularity challenges. For this purpose, a DT framework is introduced in this paper. Besides, the DT deals with other data challenges related to standards, ontology, semantic and interoperability. Besides, a Fehmarnbelt Identification Object System (FIOS), Fehmarnbelt Asset Referring System (FARS), a Fehmarnbelt Object Identification System (FOIS) and a Fehmarnbelt BIM Specification document (FBIM) have been developed for this project. When the digital twin is in operation, the tunnel owner (Sund & Bælt A/S) and operating companies will be provided with real-time insights about the performance of the tunnel and its systems supporting better decision-making processes.
