Effectiveness of Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) in Procurement of Underground Works Projects
Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) is a procurement method that involves Contractors in the early phases of project development so that they can influence key design and procurement decisions, particularly assessing the constructability of the design and construction equipment selection. There are many advantages from using this method, but some disadvantages as well. This paper describes the ECI procurement method, the general advantages and disadvantages, and specific advantages and disadvantages when used for underground works projects. A Case study is included to detail where this method has been used and how effective it was.
