  Underground Construction Independent Design Verification: Some Fundamentals

  In public or private large-scale projects the verification process represents the transition moment between the design phase and the subsequent processes. The verification activity, conducted by a subject with a specific profile and unrelated to the design process, checks that the project fulfils the client’s purposes requirement. In particular the design check verification scope, also according to the Italian law e coherently to the European law framework, is to reduce mistakes and errors and to normalize the litigation issues and claim risks. To correctly carry out the verification process, it is important to start it since the initial phase of the preliminary design and knowing in detail the contest. Here we will describe the main aspects involved in design verification and some example carried out by ANAS, the Italian State Company for national roads, where verification has helped in a better definition of some design aspects important for the tender and the contractual phase.
