The Isahaya Tunnel is a 230m-long double-track section tunnel on the Kyushu Shinkansen under construction (Takeoonsen to Nagasaki). This tunnel intersects with national and city roads at a depth of approximately 3.5m. These are main roads and there are many underground utilities in this area. Our challenge in this excavation is that it does not have any effect on roads and underground utilities. The ground of this tunnel was tuff breccia and mechanical excavation of New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) was adopted. As means of protection for national road what the pipe-roof protection was adopted in national route section as a countermeasure for collapse of the tunnel crown was adapted. Then, measurement of land subsidence of the roads was conducted to grasp the influence by excavations. This report contains ground surface measurement management and construction results under conditions of tunnel construction tunnelling directly underneath main roads with a lot of traffic.
