Case Study on the Design of Tunnel by NATM in Urban Environment
The main objective of this paper is to study the design philosophy of the primary lining of NATM tunnel for an underground metro station at Mumbai Metro Line 3. The underground station consists of a cut and cover station and NATM tunnel construction. The location consists of the varying geology from grade II rock to weathered rock. The paper covers the geotechnical parameters, construction stage modelling in geotechnical software tool. The study also describes various aspects such as construction methodology, instrumentation & monitoring & safety aspects to be adopted in NATM construction. The results demonstrate that the derived primary supports from analytical methods & numerical analysis are sufficient to keep the displacement at the surface and tunnel crown within permissible limits.
