In order to gain knowledge about the consequences that vibration restrictions on surrounding objects has on tunnel blasting, a model for prediction of vibrations can be used. This model must consider both surrounding objects and their vibration restrictions as well as how vibrations are transmitted through the rock mass. A way to achieve this is by making a test blast in the area and then using the results to predict the outcome from blasting for the tunnels. SKB (Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Co) is planning to build a spent fuel repository that will host the spent nuclear fuel at a depth of 470 m. In the investigation the focus has been to study the vibrations that the nuclear powerplants and the existing storage facilities in the vicinity of the repository will be subjected to during construction. The paper describes the method of the test blast, the results as well as the consequences for the project that can be predicted from the investigation.
