  Case study of jammed TBM in Rock Tunnels

  The use of TBM is always more widespread also due to the ever increasing versatility of these machines, no longer limited to the sole condition of rock sound but capable of facing even complex situations. Despite the technological progress it is possible to run into particularly unfavorable geological situations, which determine the TBM’s trap. This paper reviews the experience of releasing methods for two different experience in Italy carried out by excavation of lateral tunnel, with detail of access, tunnel excavation, support installation, also illustrating the calculations carried out for the estimation of the load reduction on the TBM that for the effects induced on the shield by a condition of effort no longer homogeneous.
