This paper describes the construction works of slope stabilization in the ancient quarry of Punta Lucero, located in the facilities of the Port Authority of Bilbao. This intervention is necessary in order to prevent rockfalls, which threatened several critical energetic facilities implanted in the port platform. The works have been conceived using eco-design criteria, as the material obtained from the stabilization works has been employed as fill material for another contractual arrangement in the area, the construction of a Central Quay in the extension of Bilbao Port. On the other hand, the technique of descending benching has been used, combined with a double shaft-tunnel system. This method has many advantages, both from the perspective of safety and also from an environmental point of view, as it reduces the emission of greenhouse gases. This system has no precedents in slope stabilization works.
