This paper investigates the performance of two Slurry TBMs on the North-South Transmission Cable Tunnel project, contract NS2, predominantly through the ground conditions of Bukit Timah Granite, a prominent rock formation at the centre of the Singapore Island. The evaluation is based on statistical analyses of the TBM operational parameters and primary geological data gathered through the course of the excavation. The study focuses on key performance indicators of the TBMs (e.g. thrust force, cutterhead rotation, face pressure) in challenging conditions associated with the Bukit Timah Granite layer such as high fracture zones, faults, and mixed face excavation. TBM advance rate analysis is based only on boring time and excludes downtime associated with associated tunnelling activities.
