Minimization of Compensation Measures Based on a Probabilistic Risk Simulation Concept
Tunneling induced settlements in soft soils are almost impossible to avoid and can lead to building damages in the vicinity of such. To reduce the damage risks, cost-intensive prevention methods like jet grouting are commonly applied in practice. To reduce these measures to the essential minimum along the tunnel alignment, this paper presents a novel probabilistic risk simulation concept which contrasts potential structural maintenance costs to those of preemptive compensation measures. The approach is based on scattering input parameters to adequately estimate occurrence probabilities and determine the optimum number of compensation measures to guarantee the most economical solution.
