Experimental Approach to Testing the Vibration on Excavation Machines
In this paper, the ratio of peak to mean forces, which lead to better understand the vibration of a cutting head and the breakdown of the mechanical parts of machines, was analyzed. For this purpose, experiments using conical picks were conducted on sandstone rocks and the tool forces were monitored. Simplified comparisons among the ratios of forces, which are the ratio of peak cutting force to mean cutting force (FCp/ FCm), the ratio of peak cutting force to peak normal force (FCp/ FNp), the ratio of mean cutting force to mean normal force (FCm/ FNm), were made. As a result of the tests, it was found that the upper limit ratios of FCp/FCm and the FCp/FNp would be about 2.16 and 1.33 respectively. Hence, the vibration tendency of the machine would be in the minimum levels. An increase in these ratios means that the vibration on the machine would increase along with inefficient excavation. Additionally, it was found that the ratio of FCm/ FNm has not a significant effect on the machine vibration.
