  Positive Experiences Obtained in the Execution of the Quito Metro

  In this paper, the reasons that have made it possible record performances have been achieved in the excavation with EPB tunneling machines in Quito Metro line 1, the influence of geology throughout its complete layout, the high professionalism of the operating crews who have handled the three tunnel boring machines used in their excavation and the increase in power required from the manufacturer and defined from the first moment before the manufacture of two of the machines used, will be described. The early planning of the work is key to achieving high performances of advance and more still the synergy of contributing factors, in particular the interference of excavation process of the stations with the mechanized boring of the tunnel.
