  Innovations Introduced in the Mechanized Excavation of the Tunnel Included in the Extension Project of the Dubai Metro

  In this paper, we will describe two innovations introduced in the execution of the tunnel included in the extension project of the Dubai Metro, as result of lessons learned in previous Acciona Construction projects and that have proven be successful in their implementation. One aspect is the launching of the TBM in the starting portal with a reduced cover, saving time and obtaining better economic efficiency. For it, the undertaken treatments of the ground in the first 150 meters of tunnel will be described, due its high relevance. The second innovation was the use of steel fibres as the only reinforcement of the high performance concrete used for the lining segments of said tunnel. It will be detailed the geometry and accessories of the segments that make up the tunnel lining ring.
