In the Yamatogawa Route in the urban area of Kansai, Japan, parallel shield tunnels with a large cross-section are constructed very closely over a long distance. To solve the technical problems involved in this project, we designed the tunnels using an original method that independently defined the design evaluation of the influence of the shield tunnel excavation on the neighboring tunnel. In addition, we measured the behavior of the ground and shield tunnels in four measurement cross-sections to confirm the validity of this method. In this paper, the design value reflecting the setting conditions of construction control during the following shield passage and measurement value in the existing tunnel were compared. As a result, the safety of the tunnel was confirmed. Additionally, it was suggested that the behavior of the existing tunnel was influenced by the construction load of the following shield and tunnel linearity in accordance with the expectations. Parallel shield tunnels, Influence on proximity tunnel, Construction load, High proximity and large cross-section, Curve construction.
