Segmental lining for a tunnel support system, for a shield on a tunnel boring machine (TBM) refers to the precast segments built in a pre-cast concrete manufacturing facility. Although steel fibers have been used in many tunnels worldwide, for most precast tunnel segment designs, rebar is still used for reinforcement mainly. The labor and material costs make up a large part of the manufacturing of the tunnel segments using rebar. But the use of type-I, cold-drawn, hooked end steel fiber instead of a rebar can reduce the labor and material costs. At the same time, the structural properties of the segments are improved. The purpose of this study is to develop an easy to use structural design tool for SFRC segments. For this purpose, we have developed a SFRC segment design system based on the International Tunneling and Underground Space Association guidelines (ITA, 2016) by conducting a survey of various SFRC segment design methods around the world. In addition, we confirmed our findings through a study that the resisting forces of SFRC segments are increased when reinforced steel fiber tensile strength is increased.
