BIM is a common word in the industry today, this paper will focus on the “I” in BIM. With object information you can connect any information available to the model. The first topic I will address is the linking between the bill of quantities and the BIMmodel. With this link, the quantities are extracted from the model instead of being typed in to the contract. The object information can be added as a parameter or a property to the object. Several software tools in use today creates a lot of default properties, but some of the most common file formats in use does not support this information and it is lost. Through IFC we have been able to make the connection to the Bill of quantities as mentioned earlier. Another benefit is that we can track an object from design, how it’s planned to be built, how it’s built and through the operation and maintenance phase. As an example, we can now model the weakness zones and the different layers in the ground in the geological model. Adding properties, we can add every known data into the model. During the construction phase this model and properties can easily be updated when new information is available, which gives the users a good insight of the ground conditions based on available investigations and geological interpretation. Combining this with the use of MWD data, we will have a complete history of the tunnel excavation.Furthermore, we have been able to streamline the design process of tunnels with Revit and Dynamo. By making advanced scripts, we can place most objects like concrete elements, signs, cable trays, etc. automatically with properties.
