Two-way Conveying in Tunneling Projects
In tunneling projects underground space is limited, accidents are to be avoided and material logistics for mucking and aggregates transport has to be efficient, clean and reliable.Using specially designed conveyors for drill and blast operation as well as for TBM tunneling instead of wheel based transportation systems improves air quality, heavily reduces ventilation costs, decreases accidents and cuts accident rates to almost zero. At the same time the costs for personal are reduced and reliability is increased. In narrow tunnels conveyors transporting simultaneously in two directions again reduce the valuable cross section area to fulfill these tasks. The design of two way transporting conveyors requires customized solutions for the two way material transfer from one conveyor to the other. Special chutes are used, allowing noise and wear reduction at the same time, mainly by avoiding contact between free falling muck or material with the chute structure. A sophisticated computerized control system is necessary to ensure a reliable automatic operation of the many conveyors running at the same time. The start-up and shut-down procedure as well as the emergency shut-down procedure are fully automated, even when the whole conveyor system is many kilometers longThe overall cross-section of two way transporting conveyors is optimized to reduce the space necessary for material logistics in the tunnels. For long conveyors in Austria and Germany featuring lengths of up to 20 kilometers in a single conveyor several booster drives are installed along the conveyor to allow a total driving power of more than two megawatt. The nominal performance of these conveyors ranges between 1000 metric tons/hour and 1400 metric tons/hour. Agir supplies conveyors for the tunneling and mining industry since many years and also operates a number of complete material logistic installations for tunneling. Within the projects in the recent years Agir has realized a number of two way conveying solutions successfully. A few of these solutions and their background are presented here.Recipient :
